Three posts in 24 hours definitely constitutes spamming, but I really want you guys to see this and weigh in. Especially given the meta I held here last month.
I'm going to guess that we're all pretty accepting of homosexuality here, but what about the genderqueer?
Would you let your son wear a dress at school?I'd like to think I would, but then the biggest thing I've learned from the paper I'm writing is how deeply ingrained societal norms really are. And would you want your young child in elementary school to be teased and harassed on the playground for something so seemingly trivial as the clothes he wears? Wouldn't a good parent do all they could to spare him from that? Would a good parent knowingly let their child walk into a minefield for ideals he couldn't possibly yet possess?
Or is changing the social norms so important that we must not only endure such ridicule but allow our children to endure it too in hopes that one day we can make the ignorant open their eyes?
I wonder.
P.S. Feel free to tell me I'm entirely wrong and that little boys should wear pants, play with toy soldiers, and never ever take a ballet class - as long as your willing to defend it.
